How long should a laundry timer be?
Most regular washing machine cycles take about 45 to 60 minutes. A quick wash is usually 15 to 30 minutes, while a sanitize cycle or a bulky bedding load can run closer to 90 minutes.
Use the estimate on your machine when it has one. This timer is a backup reminder that follows you out of the laundry room.
Why use a separate timer?
Washer displays are often optimistic, especially on older machines or when a cycle pauses to balance the drum. A separate countdown helps you start a second load, switch to the dryer or free up a shared machine on time.
- Note the cycle number on shared or laundromat machines.
- Set the timer when the water starts, not when you finish sorting.
- Use a second timer for the dryer so you do not forget the load again.
How it works
Pick the closest cycle
Choose quick, delicates, regular, heavy duty or bulky. The preset sets the countdown for you.
Start with the machine
Press start when the wash cycle begins. The timer uses a target timestamp, so it stays accurate when the tab is busy.
Keep the page nearby
Leave the tab open and use fullscreen if you want the countdown across the room.
Get the switch alert
A clear chime plays when the cycle ends, so you can move the load before it sits.
Good to know
- Times are typical guides, not a replacement for the machine's own cycle display.
- The timer runs while this tab is open.
- You can pin the timer to keep the target end time in this browser.
Common questions
How long is a normal wash cycle?
A normal everyday load is usually around 45 to 60 minutes. Exact times depend on the machine, temperature, spin speed and load size.
How long is a quick wash?
Quick or express cycles usually take 15 to 30 minutes. They work best for small, lightly soiled loads.
Does this laundry timer include drying time?
No. The presets are for the wash cycle. Start another timer when you move the load to the dryer.
What if my machine shows a different time?
Follow the machine's own display when possible. These presets are practical guides for the most common cycle lengths.
