How long should you meditate?
Five to ten minutes a day is enough to build the habit. Once that feels natural, fifteen or twenty minutes gives you more room to settle. Thirty minutes is a longer practice, not a requirement.
Consistency matters more than duration. A short sit you actually do is better than a long one you avoid.
What the bells mean
- There is no bell at the start, so you can begin without waiting.
- Longer sessions have a soft interval bell to mark the passing time.
- A warm closing chime tells you the session is complete.
A simple practice
- Sit in a position you can hold without strain.
- Let your attention rest on the breath or on the sounds around you.
- When you notice you have wandered, return without judging it.
- End slowly and carry the calm into your next task.
How it works
Choose a session length
Start with three or five minutes if you are new. Ten to twenty minutes is a comfortable daily range.
Begin without a start bell
Sit down, settle your posture and start the countdown. The first bell comes only at an interval cue.
Let the timer hold the space
Keep the tab open. The soft interval bells mark time without a loud interruption.
End with the closing chime
When the warm chime plays, take one more breath before opening your eyes or moving.
Good to know
- The timer runs while this tab is open.
- Interval bells are soft; turn your device volume down if you prefer a quieter sit.
- Pinning stores the target end time in this browser.
Common questions
Is ten minutes of meditation enough?
Yes. Ten minutes a day is a solid practice, especially when you do it consistently.
What are the interval bells for?
Longer sessions use a soft bell to mark time without a visible countdown. It is a gentle orientation, not a command to stop.
Should I meditate with eyes open or closed?
Either is fine. Closed eyes reduce visual distraction; a soft downward gaze can help if you feel sleepy.
Can I use this as a breathing timer?
Yes. Set a short session and use the quiet countdown as a container for slow breathing.
